I went with my parents to visit my aunt and uncle who live out in Ranson, West Virginia. Right down the road from Charles Town. Now what we end up doing is we hang out with them and we wait to go to the races and slots until we leave. The races and slots are on the way home anyway, and that way we're not forcing the family to come along if they don't want to. Anyway while we were up there I saw several signs, and even a few commercials while I was watching tv for a issue that is going to on the ballot in an upcoming local election next month. While it isn't anything too serious to some, it is important to those that live there. It's an initiative to allow table gaming in the county. Now I personally would like it since the closest place that has table gaming, and as such would allow me to play texas hold 'em for real is Atlantic City. Now in order to get there it would be about a three hour drive, and would have me paying three separate tolls each way. The harbor tunnel, the NJ turnpike, and the Atlantic City expressway. Now going to Charles Town would only be about two hours, and no tolls at all. My aunt and uncle are in favor of it since it would increase the amount of money going into the local economy, would increase the amount of money the schools in that area are getting from the races and slots, and would (generally speaking) bring in a higher class of people. Not to mention more jobs that would come as a result. Now I do realize that as with anything with politics the people in favor tend to make everything will be great if you vote in favor of it, and those against will make it seem like the world is coming to an end unless you vote against it. I find that with any issue, the truth is usually closer to the center. Not exactly there, but close to it. So while it may be somewhat selfish my reasons for being in favor of table gaming in Jefferson County WV, I don't live there anyway so I guess it's pretty much a moot point.
